The Mecca for Ayahuasca

We invite you to join a traditional Ayahuasca retreat of healing, transformation and spiritual growth in the Amazon Rainforest of Peru.

Ayahuasca retreats taking place in Iquitos is commonplace, but seldom do the facilitators ever really explain why. People come to take part in a divine experience, one full of transcendence, enlightenment, and self-healing, little do they know they are in fact in what could be called the Mecca of Ayahuasca. Iquitos is the capital of Peru’s Loreto region and while vast, can only be accessed by river or air. In this Northeastern part of the country, bordered by Ecuador and Brazil, the indigenous people of Peru have inhabited the region for centuries.

The long history of Ayahuasca has always been debated but historians estimate the practice of brewing and consuming the vine tea has been going on for more than 5,000 years. With strong ties to cosmology, and the beliefs among the indigenous people and Amazonian tribes, rituals and even religions have formed around the Ayahuasca. Spirituality and science have merged together to push forward practices such as divination, healing, and spiritual cleansing. It is here in Iquitos, the birthplace of Ayahuasca and its ceremonies that people native and non-native to Peru flock to the shamans in search of answers and cures.

These answers are only achieved by complying and following the strict set of guidelines by which the shamans live by in order to invite the spirit of Ayahuasca inside you. The beliefs behind the guidelines are that in order to grow closer to the universe and understand the nature of our world, we must not let things like greed, waste, and toxicity deter us. So when going on an Ayahuasca retreats, it is strongly recommended to follow the provided guidelines of diet, sex, and lifestyle for a minimum of two weeks prior to coming to the retreat and to sustain it for at least two weeks after your departure.

Ayahuasca Peru Retreat – What to Expect?

Ayahuasca Peru Retreat

At the Flower of Life Ayahuasca and San Pedro Retreat Healing Center, your healing, health and happiness is our first priority. We invite you to join us in the Peruvian Amazon Rainforest for a taste of one of its most sacred treasures, Ayahuasca. This plant medicine that has been used by the indigenous people for thousands of years to send participants on inter-dimensional journeys of the heart and mind.

On these sacred shamanic journeys, you can expect profound transformations of your spiritual, energetic and physical bodies, as you explore your inner depths. You can also expect to face any trauma that may be haunting your psyche, so that you may heal from it and be free to live your life unburdened by it. Your experience will be completely unique, and it’s said that no two peoples’ journeys are ever exactly the same. But some common themes are the feeling that your mind has been propelled to another dimension, which is believed to be the spirit world.

And the majority of participants report having interaction with the spirit of the plant, who is lovingly referred to as Mother Ayahuasca. Some see her, some hear her, and some report receiving messages in other more subtle ways, but consistently, she provides love and life advice, even if tough love is needed.

Accommodations

Our 8 day Ayahuasca retreats include transportation to and from our lodge, spacious cottages with private bathroom and shower, all meals, 4 Ayahuasca ceremonies, 1 San Pedro ceremony, personal consultation with healers and the facilitator, 4 floral baths, 4 vapor baths with medicinal plants in the sauna, plant remedies if prescribed by healers to work in combination with Ayahuasca, boat rides to the local village to look at arts and crafts, jungle walks and swims with pink dolphins!

Cleansing

Before your arrival, a more restricted diet must be followed for AT LEAST two weeks prior to the start of your program, and for AT LEAST two weeks after your last ceremony. This diet is according to traditional Shipibo traditions and is used to prepare oneself for working with Ayahuasca, as well as to show respect and commitment to the spirit of Ayahuasca prior to coming to the jungle.

The clearer a person is from the energies below, the more fully they will be able to receive the healing benefits of Ayahuasca, the easier it will be for that person to purge any energies that are no longer serving them, and the more deeply they will be able to integrate the healing work of the Maestro(a)s and the plants into their own being.  Increasing the amount of time the diet is followed will only benefit a person’s experience with Ayahuasca (i.e., following this for three weeks prior to and after your program).

Our Healers

Our healers put their heart and soul into helping those who come for help. They share their extensive knowledge of the medicinal plants and their healings properties and share in ceremonies signing the beautiful icaros, sacred ayahuasca healing songs.

Master Lino is a native Kokama curandero, (native healer). He is an expert in medicinal plants and uses them to make specialty brews to help alleviate depression and anxiety disorders.

Maestra Juanita is from Pucallpa, a city on the Ucayali River in the Amazonian rainforest of eastern Peru. She is of Shipibo lineage with 20 years of experience in medicine plants and is one of the best in the Iquitos area.
Meet our Maestra and Maestro: Pedro and Celia are from Pucallpa and are of Shipibo lineage. They now reside in Iquitos.

HOW DOES AYAHUASCA WORK?

Ayahuasca (pronounced ah-yah-WAH-ska) or Yagé (ya-HEY) are native Amazonian names for the jungle vine Banisteriopsis Caapi and the medicinal tea prepared from it and other plants. Ayahuasca derives from the Quechua words aya-spirit/dead, waska-vine/rope and can be translated as “vine of the dead.” Ayahuasca is used throughout the Upper Amazon and is traditionally combined with Chacruna (Psychotria viridis).

At Flower of Life, we only use the Ayahuasca vine and Chacruna leaf in our brew to ensure you are working with Ayahuasca in its truest sense. It had become an unfortunate practice at Ayahuasca centers to make brews with different admixtures to give people intense “Ayahuasca experiences” but this experience is not in the true nature of the medicine. Lakshmi’s Flower of Life retreats are not Ayahuasca tourism. As such, we provide the traditional brew that will enable access to the visionary world of the mother plant that provides deep personal insight and healing.

Ayahuasca can be a very powerful tool in a person’s healing journey, whether this be physical, mental, emotional or spiritual; however, each experience is completely singular to the person working with Ayahuasca.  Individual circumstances can vary greatly and for this reason, there are no guarantees that any certain degree of healing will be achieved or any condition cured.
